SCHOOL STREET INITIATIVE

Honeywell School Street

Dear Parent,

We would like to send a reminder to parents and carers of our school community in regards to the School Street being implemented on 12th October 2020.

A School Street is a timed street closure outside a school during drop-off and pick-up times, restricting vehicle access. This creates a pedestrian and cycle only zone so that only people walking, cycling, and exempt vehicles will be allowed access. It is designed to reduce the number of vehicles around the school, providing a safer environment for children travelling to and from school as well as enabling greater social distancing. They also encourage more physically active journeys to school and help in improving air quality surrounding the schools.

Honeywell Road between Northcote Road and Webbs Road, will be closed to motor traffic during school drop off and pick up times, 8.35am to 9.30am and 3pm to 3.55pm, creating a pedestrian and cycle only zone.

Only residents, blue badge holders, and emergency vehicles will be allowed vehicular access on the School Street.

Following government advice, we strongly encourage pupils/parents/carers to travel to school by active means – such as walking and cycling – and avoid the use of private vehicles or public transport where possible. We also encourage you to discuss these changes, along with the benefits of the scheme, with your child(ren).  Children in the Junior School who would otherwise be travelling by car or bus to school.are now able to store the bicycles and scooters on site.

There will be an opportunity to meet Sustrans (a cycling and walking charity) and a representative from the school to discuss the scheme on Weds 30th September from 8.45-11am.  You will find them opposite the school, outside numbers 81 & 83 Honeywell Road.

You can also provide feedback to Wandsworth Council via their consultation page, https://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/the-council/have-your-say/consultations/, which will go live on 12th October.

For any questions, feedback or issues concerning School Streets, visit https://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/schoolstreets or email transportation@wandsworth.gov.uk or attend one of our drop-in call sessions on Thursdays 12-2pm, which you can register to attend by emailing the email address above.

We will be relying on parent volunteers to implement the scheme and we would encourage anyone that can help to please attend a volunteer training session on Friday 2nd October 9.15-10.15am (sign up on Classlist) and to sign up to the volunteer rota which will be circulated by our School Street team very soon.

Thank you for your cooperation.
